Charlie Brown by The Coasters
This week I chose to write about Charlie Brown by The Coasters. This is a really fun song I love the beginning of the song with a group entrance. The song has a really fast upbeat tempo and only slows down for brief moments. It also has many instruments that can be heard. The ones that really stuck out to me is the saxophone which has many solos with one that lasts a full twenty-five seconds. The other instrument is the drums which keeps the tempo. I love how much variation the song has. I love how the whole group sings and at random points different voices are heard saying solo lines. I also love the story it tells of a young class clown who always gets into trouble for writing on walls, goofing in the halls, and other wild behavior. Throughout the song the singers always say he's going to get caught for all of his shenanigans. Then a single voice will say "Why's everybody always picking on me?" in a lower voice and then it goes back to its high paced beat and group vocals. It is interesting that they portray the Charlie Brown voice as such a low almost manly voice.
I really love the beginning of the song with the group all joining together as well.this sorry brings up a lot fun memories when listening to the lyrics and the mischievous story. This song really gets you up and moving and I enjoy that about music. Great post!
ReplyDeleteI love how in detail you were about the song and how you really described all of the elements. I also loved how clearly you could tell the different types of instruments and I feel like it gave different elements to the song as a whole. It is nice to have a variety of singing and to bring some soloists in at the same time. It gives good dimension to the song which is very important.
ReplyDeleteI like all the details that you included that describe the elements that build up the song. I have not personally listened to this song but the way that you described it makes it seem like a very enjoyable song. The way that you described the ending to the song seemed very appealing to the audience.
