Eleanor Rigby by The Beatles

This week I chose to listen to Eleanor Rigby by The Beatles. I love the fast paced beat of this song. I also really like how they utilize orchestra instruments in this song. This song is interesting because the lyrics are actually quite depressing however the fast paced beat and sound of the string instruments create a sense of urgency that does not allow you to feel sad or depressed. The whole song is about lonely people. In particular Eleanor Rigby and Father Mckenzie. It first describes Eleanor Rigby as living in a dream and waiting by the window. It then describes Father Mckenzie and how he writes sermons that no will hear and that no one comes to listen to him. It also states how he fixes his socks even though no one will see them. The song then asks the question "What does he care". Why does Father Rigby do all these things if no one cares or listens to him. The last part of the song says that Eleanor Rigby dies and no one came to her funeral but Father Mckenzie who al...

Charlie Brown by The Coasters

This week I chose to write about Charlie Brown by The Coasters. This is a really fun song I love the beginning of the song with a group entrance. The song has a really fast upbeat tempo and only slows down for brief moments. It also has many instruments that can be heard. The ones that really stuck out to me is the saxophone which has many solos with one that lasts a full twenty-five seconds. The other instrument is the drums which keeps the tempo. I love how much variation the song has. I love how the whole group sings and at random points different voices are heard saying solo lines. I also love the story it tells of a young class clown who always gets into trouble for writing on walls, goofing in the halls, and other wild behavior. Throughout the song the singers always say he's going to get caught for all of his shenanigans. Then a single voice will say "Why's everybody always picking on me?" in a lower voice and then it goes back to its high paced beat and group ...

Hey, Good Lookin' by Hank Williams

This week I chose to write about the song Hey, Good Lookin' performed by Hank Williams. This song has all the elements of an old country song. Like many country songs this is a love song. The song is basically a man trying to ask out a girl. Overall I really like the song however I do not like Hank Williams voice in this song. He tries to extend many notes and it really just comes off as annoying. The song has a very constant beat you can hear in the background and you can hear many different instruments. This includes the violin, guitar, and piano. The song's beat is one that makes you want to tap your foot to the beat of the song. When you hear this song you automatically feel like you have gone back in time to an old bar.  The lyrics of the song also reflect the time that this song was made. At one point he talks about a date book that he is going to throw over the fence. Then he says he is going to buy a new one and write this girls name on every page. The song seems like...

Gospel Ship by The Carter Family

This week I chose to write about Gospel Ship  performed by the Carter family. On their album cover they call themselves "Country Music's First Family". Like many Christians the Cater Family in this song refers to religion as a ship. Throughout the song they sing of sailing in this ship and going beyond the sky. I believe this refers to the their belief in being on another plane of happiness coming from their beliefs. They sing that they are going to sing and praise until they leave the world behind. This goes back to their Christian beliefs in which they believe they have a duty to share their beliefs with others. They also refer to the gospel ship as being an old ship. I believe this refers to their belief in the bible which was written thousands of years before this so they are saying that they share their religion with those people from so long ago and their beliefs are the same. The song features a single guitar in the background. It has a very typical country tune a...
