Autobiography

 Hey everyone!


    My name is Evan Percival and I am from Roosevelt, Utah. Growing up I worked on my family's cattle ranch. I graduated from Union High School in 2018 and afterwards served a two year religious/humanitarian mission in the Marshall Islands. 

    Growing up in a small town I follow the stereotype of loving country music. Some of my favorite artists/groups include Cole Swindell, Florida Georgia Line, and Blake Shelton. I love this genre because it reminds me of home and many of the ideas within the songs are similar to things I have seen or experienced in my own life. I also enjoy country music because of its strong patriotic themes. I find country music to also be more realistic and applicable to my own life. While artists from other genres often sing about their money or their fancy cars, country artists often sing about working on a farm or driving a truck or tractor. This makes it more relatable to its listeners than other genres. Most listeners of an artist such as Drake will not be able to ever ride in a fancy foreign car like he sings about however a listener of Jason Aldean has a higher chance of riding in a big green tractor. This is why I love country music.

 This week I chose to write about Gospel Ship  performed by the Carter family. On their album cover they call themselves "Country Music's First Family". Like many Christians the Cater Family in this song refers to religion as a ship. Throughout the song they sing of sailing in this ship and going beyond the sky. I believe this refers to the their belief in being on another plane of happiness coming from their beliefs. They sing that they are going to sing and praise until they leave the world behind. This goes back to their Christian beliefs in which they believe they have a duty to share their beliefs with others. They also refer to the gospel ship as being an old ship. Gone Country by Alan Jackson

 This week I chose to write about the song "Gone Country" by Alan Jackson. Alan Jackson is very comparable to George Strait. These two country artists were the faces of country music in the 80's and 90's and their songs are still played today. Both of these artists were very traditional in their country style. The song "Gone Country" was actually written by Bob McDill. It was released way back in 1984. This song basically tells the stories of multiple people who are unsatisfied with their current lifestyles. These people then make the choice to change their lifestyles for a simpler country lifestyle. Thriller by Micheal Jackson

 This week I chose to write on Thriller by Michael Jackson.  Michael Jackson is such a well known artist. He was born in nineteen fifty eight and died tragically back in two thousand nine. He has a very iconic high pitched voice and was often known as the king of pop.  This is such a fun and classic song. It came out way back in nineteen eighty two. Even though it is quite old it is still quite popular. Many people have created covers of this song and it is often played around Halloween. The song is a great Halloween song and has a creepy vibe at the beginning. This song is very upbeat and easy to listen to. The whole song tells a horror story of being followed by zombies and other nightly creatures. It portrays this story in such a fun way.
